The Lone Ranger Meme by Katze-North The Lone Ranger Meme by Katze-North
Decided to give this meme a go. Sorry, it seems to be mostly about Butch rather than other characters, because I like him the most.

Thanks again.
Well, it's just that I sometimes get too lazy and use art as references for architecture, not only photos. Luckily, that doesn't happen often.

i don't see why using references count as being lazy. using references is perfectly normal.

Well, I think that using art as reference is in a way cheating, so I prefer photo references. But there are many different opinions on the subject, of course. Some even think that an artist can only use photo references if the photos were made by him too...

like you mentioned, i have a differing opinion on the matter.

references are there to put your ideas in images, to have something concrete on where to go.

a few examples would be to point out an armor piece if you don't know what its called or to show a cinqueda if you do not know how to describe it.
what type of jaw and/or chin a character should have (strong jaw and chin is much too vague a term).
or what kind of expression a character should have. for example, big smile is, once again, much too vague to precise anything.

the thing with descriptions is that its not often very precise. thats where references are needed. to put ideas in concrete.

I completely agree with you on that. References in general are indispensable for adding more details to the picture which could be rather schematic and dull otherwise.

This was so awesome! You did a really good job, I laughed so hard at some points. I love the way you draw Butch, and clearly I didn't mind that it was mostly about him 'cause I like him the most too. 8D Thank you for using my meme!
